Cris Clay joined Westwood in 2010 when she started gaining weight after having had a gastric bypass in 2002. She weighed 305 pounds prior to surgery and weighed as little as 165 1-1/2 years later. She was still working full time as a nurse and was not physically fit as she wanted to be.
“Everyone at Westwood were very welcoming and encouraging. Initially I swam laps and did water aerobics as that was less strenuous and I thought land classes would be too hard for me. Over time my fitness improved,” said Cris.
After her husband passed away in 2013, Cris’s daughter – who is a strength and conditioning coach – developed fitness programs to increase her strength. She then joined Fit Zone which has given her so much more confidence in her ability to work out.
“In 2017 I had a knee replacement and West Wood was a huge part of my recovery. I do Fit Zone with Meredith on Monday, yoga on Tuesday, Intervals with Chris on Wed and cycling with Tom on Thursday. I am currently at my lowest weight at 147 and know this is the best shape I have ever been. I feel strong and finally love myself.”
